Tax Act - the FREE and easy way to do your taxes

I can't say that I dread tax season, but I would say that my husband does! He is the official tax preparer in our household, so I generally leave the tax software decisions to him. Over the years we have used Turbo Tax and Tax Cut, which often came bundled with either Quicken or Money, both excellent money management tools. Basically, he had no real preference, just whichever one would work out free or nearly so, after rebates.

This year, however, he opted to use Tax Act. Tax Act is a free tax preparation program that you can download to your computer. Federal e-filing is free, but the state return is not. However, our state does offer a site which allowed us to file our state return for free. For the most part, he really liked the program. He started preparing our taxes as W-2s and 1099s trickled in, and just saved the information until we have every shred of paperwork that we needed to file our return. He found it quite comparable to the paid versions and would gladly file via Tax Act again next year.

After our taxes were filed electronically, we were able to go back in and check the status. True to its word, our refund was electronically deposited on the date given, which was hardly more than a week after we filed.

So save yourself a few bucks and try Tax Act this year. You won't be disappointed.
