Moms and Dads know that Melissa & Doug make fine, quality learning products for kids.  Over the years, we've gotten many puzzles, games, and toys for our children and have always been pleased with them.  These are toys that will outlast your child and stay nice enough to hand down.  I actually gave puzzles bought for my daughter 10 years ago to my grand nephew last year.  Bear in mind, they were first passed down to my son and survived him too.
