Wrigley's NBA Sweepstakes wins - four $25 gift certificates to the NBA Store
My friend, Michelle, posted on her blog that I am lucky at winning things and it seems that it is true this week. About a month ago, I bought four packs of Wrigley's gum using a Buy 3 get one free coupon. The gum was on sale too, for .79 a pack. So four packs for two bucks and change. They were specially marked products (SMPs) and I input the codes on the sweeps website. I received a winning screen each time, telling me that I won a pack of gum. So imagine my surprise when I opened four letters from Wrigley's stating that I was a winner in the Wrigley's NBA Sweepstakes and won a $25 gift certificate to the NBA Store, all four times!
It is rare, but sometimes those winning screens are not always truthful. I have gotten notified before that a losing screen was a winning one after all. But not often do I find I have won an even better prize. Instant Win Games - Win just about anything
My friends and family view me as a lucky person. Why? Because I play instant win games on my computer and win. To be honest, I have won complete junk and I have also won some big ticket prizes that are very nice.
I started playing these games about two or three years ago. At first, the prizes were small. I won lots of t-shirts, hats, etc. Then about two years ago, I was playing an instant win game called AOL In2TV. Up popped a screen saying I had won an entertainment package worth $2,400. I could hardly believe it! I had won a 32" Vivitek LCD TV and a Winbook Jiv Mini. My husband started to salivate at that point because the Winbook Jiv was superior to his custom built desk top by far. He anxiously awaited its arrival like a kid waits for Santa to shove presents under the tree.
Then I won airline tickets, which we plan to use to go to Disney this year. Last year I won a lap top from the Libby's Labels for Laptops contest. A wonderful Dell Vostro 1000, a very nice computer if I do say so myself.
Of course, if you win a prize whose value exceeds $600, per IRS regs, it is reportable on a 1099 form, which the prize company will issue you. In this case, the prize fulfillment company will send you affidavits and forms so that they can report the prize win properly. Since I have been a SAHM, it was often the only "income" I had to report on my taxes.
I generally only play those games that I truly want to win the prize offered. I keep an eye out for sweepstakes and enter those, especially regional ones which increase my chance of winning. In addition to miscellaneous clothing, I have won a $250 prepaid visa, several $50 gift cards, prepaid debit cards, smaller gift cards, a Sony PSP, free coupons, etc.
I usually play through the Myinstantwin site, but there are other sweeps sites that provide a list of instant win games, such as OLS, make it easy to search out only those sweeps and instant win games giving away prizes you want to win. If you pare down your sweeps entries to just those who offer prizes you want, you really don't have to spend a lot time entering contests. The payoff, however, can be huge. Winning airfare in my case meant that we could plan a family vacation much cheaper than we would have normally. My sister-in-law won an Ipod Shuffle from an instant win game and gave it to me because she knew I'd been wanting one. So even if you don't win something you want, it may just be the perfect gift for someone else.

MSN Live Search Club - worth the effort of joining?
Yesterday, I ranted on about Netwinner's sweeping changes and declared that I did not feel it a viable way to earn extra money. Sure, if you have the time to devote to it, it may pay off. But it is definitely going to take a lot longer since Netwinner changed the rules on how often you can play.
Enter MSN Live Search Club. I have been a member for about a year. Now, I am not going to say that this site is a money maker; it isn't. However, it is also a free gaming site, where you can play as much as you want, all day if you want to do so. The prizes seem to wax and wane, it used to have movie tickets, who knows, those may come back. The Xbox has been out of stock for quite a while, but a Microsoft Zune can be yours for a mere 20,000 points. The most points that a game gives is 25 points per game and that is Flexicon. However, if you love crossword puzzles, you will love Flexicon. I happen to enjoy a good crossword and I can easily complete 3 puzzles in about 15 minutes or so, give or take. I usually play this site on a lazy Sunday afternoon and try to amass a few hundred points or so. I currently have 12,000 odd points and am aiming for the Zune. There are other prizes such as airline miles for Delta, American and other airlines, ring tones, t-shirts, hats, music downloads, a web cam, some Xbox games (Microsoft Fable Platinum, Microsoft Project Gotham Racing 3) a Microsoft wireless controller, a faceplate for your Xbox, the Zune, a wireless Bluetooth keyboard... the list goes on. I do note, however, the software and hardware items do have a limit to one per household. However, if you are in the market for any of these items, playing a few games a day will net you a nice prize.
I do recommend MSN Live Search because it currently doesn't limit your number of games, and this site is an ideal way to get codes to download music. It doesn't take a lot of time to amass enough points to cash out for a small prize such as that, and if you have a teenager with an Ipod (or a husband with a Nano!) it is an excellent way to get something for free, save a bit of your time. One last thing, this site runs best if your computer is up to date on Flash. Some games were giving me some trouble, a problem with Adobe. If you experience the same error and you are running the most current version, do drop them a line. Also, sometimes it won't run in Firefox, but will in IE. If that is the case, switch browsers and see if that helps.
Editing to add that if you don't sign in until you are ready to cash out (for Seekadoo and other games giving the Adobe 9 error) you can play fine with no problems. Just sign in and it should deposit your points into your account.

Netwinner makes huge changes to their prize pool and if that isn't bad enough, cuts the amount of times you can play their games
I'd been mulling over the idea of posting here about Netwinner. For those who aren't aware, Netwinner is a free gaming site where you can play Banko (which is a lot like bingo) and spin the money wheel (which you can either choose your own numbers or click the quick pick button). Every so often a multiplier will come up and you do have a chance to win extra points based on the multiplier times the amount of points you win.
With Banko, you get 10 cards to play. This game is nice because once you hit the play button, it pretty much runs itself until you get either a bingo (a straight line, either horizonal, vertical or diagonal), 4 corners, fill the pattern (which varies from game to game) or Banko, where you fill the card. Banko is unique in that you can either opt to take the points you would win on getting any of the above mentioned winning combinations, or you can press your luck and hope to win more points.
With the money wheel you choose your numbers or click the quick pick and it will auto generate the 5 numbers for you. Now, the money wheel is a lot more work since you must choose the numbers each time, however way you wish to do it. Money wheel requires more attention to the game than Banko does.
From posts on various other boards, it became apparent that some people were using the Netwinner site as sort of a job. I think Netwinner picked up on this also, hence the sweeping change from practically unlimited spins on the money wheel and Banko cards through their partner sites to just one game of each per day. This seriously cut down on point wins for most people. At nearly the same time, Netwinner quit offering popular gift cards as prizes, and instead, now offers the e-count card as its only redeemable prize. You can, however, "buy" raffle tickets with your points. Honestly, most people whom I have seen complain about this aren't going to be entering the raffles.
Hence my dilemma since I no longer feel that I can promote Netwinner as a way to help make ends meet. With its current rules, I don't see how most people can earn any type of gift card (barring sheer luck) in any reasonable amount of time. So if you have heard anything about Netwinner as a possibility to play games in your spare time and earn gift cards, think again. It is no longer a truly viable gaming site with its current rules.
