Are you driving the RIGHT car?

I know, this is a silly question to most, but with today's gas prices, it should give one pause. This realization hit home for my family one day when my husband realized that my 10 year Chevy got better gas mileage than his 2000 Chrysler... by 10 mpg to be exact. Now, you might not think that is a big deal, but he was traveling 200 miles to NJ each way for work assignments on a rather frequent basis. While his employer does pay him mileage, it became painfully clear that even so, we were wasting money (and resources) by not switching cars. I was somewhat reluctant; after all, that car has been mine for nearly 10 years, I knew its quirks, knew without a doubt how to park it properly in any given parking situation and it was comfortable for me. Cooler heads prevailed because really, I don't drive all that much. As a SAHM, I run to the grocery store and perhaps drive one hour away once a week and home again. Switching cars meant even based just on his commute alone, trips to NJ not withstanding, he would use 10 gallons of gas less per month. At $3 a gallon, that is $30 my friends! Take the time, calculate your miles per gallon of gas and take a hard look at whether you really are driving the right car after all.
