Are you a Netflixer? If you are not, should you be?

You'd probably have to be living in a cave to not know about Netflix! We have been Netflixers for going on two years. Watching VOD on our Dish would cost us almost $5 a movie and renting from the Movie Gallery here in town would cost us just about as much per movie. However, with our Netflix package, we can get unlimited movies per month and it only takes a day to get movies for the most part. Theoretically, if things worked out perfectly, I could snag 9 movies a week if I wanted to do so. With the kids home for the summer, it is a great way to entertain them during the day. We use the Netflix service a lot during the summer because we get cartoons out and they don't take as long to watch as movies do, so we can easily watch 3 cartoons from Netflix in a day and return them the next day.

Netflix: No late fees

Another aspect of Netflix that we love is that there are no late fees. Trust me when I tell you that this is a good thing for us. We have kept movies out for literally months and returned them with no late fees attached. I sure couldn't do that at the video store! We keep our queue up-to-date as much as we can so that when a movie is just released, we can get it soon. If we want a movie sooner, we just move it up the queue.

Netflix: Watch movies on your computer

Some movies are even available for watching via computer. My husband watched one movie this way and it did not count as a movie you took out, meaning we still had 3 out and he was able to watch the movie on his computer.

Netflix: Free trials or signing up via MyPoints to earn points

From time to time, Netflix offers free trials for one month instead of the standard 2 weeks. The current offer runs until June 15 so if anyone is interested, please comment here and I'll see what I can do. I'd need an email address to forward the Netflix email to you. Signing up via MyPoints will net you 1,000 points. I don't think you can combine a free trial with it though. Netflix has over 100,000 titles, so there is a large selection of titles to choose from.

Netflix: Why it saves money

If you use a video rental store, think about making the move over to a service like Netflix. The mailman is responsible for getting your movies from here to there, and that saves on gas. The envelopes to return movies are pre-paid and cost you nothing. I do feel that Netflix is a good choice for those who rent several movies per month or want to rent new releases which would cost more otherwise at the video store because Netflix's most popular plan - the 3 out at a time plan - is just $15.99. They also offer less expensive plans if you are interested. The 2 out at a time plan is $12.99. There are several plans to fit many budget and movie watching habits.
