Blockbuster now in peril; Are we looking at a bankruptcy filing soon?

Add this company to your caution list, especially when it comes to gift cards. With summer graduation and wedding season soon upon us, a Blockbuster gift card may not be the best gift to give.

According to an MSNBC report, Blockbuster may be facing financial peril, leaving doubt in the minds of its auditors that Blockbuster will survive, or be the next to tumble into bankruptcy.

The Blockbuster bombshell, coupled with Netflix' blatant money grab, makes me wonder what the future holds for rental stores and the at home DVD option. Many on the Netflix blog posted that they were jumping ship and heading to Blockbuster. Perhaps Netflix might want to rethink their greed here and focus on winning back their customers in this ever tougher economy? I wouldn't count on it. I would bet that Netflix will lie in wait like a predator, hoping and waiting for Blockbuster to fail so that they can sweep in and clean up with the at-home renters who prefer to get their DVDs via mail.
