Saving money on tank exchanges or new purchases can be done. While you wouldn't normally think about a discount on propane, cost conscious grillmeisters may want to know these tips on saving money on a propane tank refill or exchange.
Blue Rhino is currently offering a $3 rebate on new tank purchases or exchanges through December 31, 2009. It is limit one refund per year. The rebate form is printable online here but keep an eye out at your local gas station's beer stash, as Blue Rhino rebates can sometimes be found there as well, tied in with a beer promotion (and not all promotions will require beer purchase in some states.... like mine!)
Amerigas is also offering a printable rebate, only theirs is for $5 back. Sorry for the short notice as I just found this rebate online, but it does expire 5/15. I also found a tear pad for $2 rebate for same at a local Sheetz. The printable rebate form can be found here.
For us, though, we are able to refill our propane at a local grocery store that has the capability to fill it for us. Also, in the past, we have also refilled our grill's propane tank at Uhauls. So call around and see what it costs. It may be cheaper to take it somewhere for a refill (takes just a few minutes) versus trading in your tank.
