I hate junkmail. In particular, I hate receiving pre-screened offers in the mail that I have not in any way, shape or form solicited. Catalogs to stores I'd never shop at, not to mention post cards for services I don't want or need seem to flood my mailbox, especially around the holidays. I always feel guilty throwing them away because when I look at my trash pile at the end of the week, I know it has to go somewhere. It's particularly hard for me to recycle where I live because the onus is on me to haul my recycleables to a designated place in the town I live at. I just don't have (nor want) to store recycleables at my house and I long for the days where I had a recycling can I could stick at the curb and have my trash collector haul it away for me.
If you receive a lot of junk mail, you may want to check out Pankaj Shah's GreenDimes. For a small fee, users can have their junk mail stopped. Stopping junk mail is good for the environment because it saves trees. It is also good for our elderly population who receive junk mail offers in the mail that amount to nothing more than scams. For just a few dollars per month, GreenDimes will regularly request that your name be removed from multiple mailing lists, freeing up your free time (not to mention your mailbox space). This company is legitimate - I have researched and found links on legitimate websites such as The New York Times that discuss how Pankaj Shah conceived GreenDimes and how he hopes to put himself out of business eventually by stopping intrusive junk mail for good.
