Laminate flooring at Costco - $8 off instantly, but offer ends tomorrow.

We've been spending a few weeks looking at and pricing out laminate flooring for our home and finally settled on a nice Brazilian Cherry Laminate from Costco. We liked the way it looked, it fit our budget and it had a nice price after instant discount. Though still painful to our wallet to spend so much, we have to replace the carpet in several rooms, I have allergies and hey, Uncle Sam just sent us a bit of money back. Another big plus was that it has a 35 year warranty, which makes us feel like it is a durable product since many other flooring options we looked at had a 10 year warranty instead.

They did have some nice laminate there other than the Brazilian Cherry. Of course, with laminate, you get what you pay for. The less expensive wood laminates didn't look as nice and for us, resale is on our mind since we want to move in a year or two if possible. We were aiming for nice enough to not make our house look cheap, but not so expensive we were overinvesting in a home we weren't going to keep. I think with this flooring that we have struck a balance.

One thing a Costco employee did point out to us was upgrading our membership to the Business one that costs $100 per year. Because we spent a huge chunk on the laminate, upgrading and being able to get the 2% back at the end of year made our first large purchase almost a wash. Since they don't take Discover, at least this way we do get some kind of cash back for our purchase. We weren't willing to apply for an AmEx (though they were offering a full case of water if we wanted to apply.)

So, I should be busy in the next few weeks laying the floor with my hubby. We're going to do our son's room first since his needs painted badly. We figure since the carpet is coming out anyway, we won't need to worry too much about paint slops. Wish me luck. I'm not Mrs. Fix it!

If you are looking at laminate, check out Costco. The $8 instant savings per box ends tomorrow.
