Funky Monkey Snacks Review & Giveaway: Gluten free goodness!

I  recently received a box of 7 flavors of Funky Monkey Snacks to sample  and review.  The folks at Funky Monkey Snacks have also generously  allowed me to run a giveaway for Making Ends Meet so that one reader has will win their own sampler pack.

Funky Monkey Snacks Taste:

Funky  Monkey Snacks are a dried fruit snack that crunches!  This was a little  weird at first bite, but as I devoured the first bag of Applemon, I was  not put off anymore and really enjoyed the flavor.  There are a total  of 7 flavors of Funky Monkey Snacks.  Here is the list, ranked my  favorite to my least fave:

Applemon
Carnaval Mix
MangOJ
Pink  Pineapple
JiveALime
Bananamon
Purple Funk

By far, Applemon was  my most favorite and I enjoyed the Carnaval Mix and Pink Pineapple  varieties very much because the pineapple was just yummy.  I’m not a  huge fan of dried bananas and much prefer their taste right off the  bunch.  Still, they were definitely an interesting and great tasting gluten free option for me.  Kids will love the crunch of these fruit snacks and you can feel good that these fruit snacks are a fun way to get your kids to eat fruit.

Funky Monkey Snacks:  Nutrition

Funky Monkey Snacks are a healthy and fun lunch snack because the way they are freeze dried ensures that the fruits' nutrition mainly stays intact!  You aren't eating empty calories either.  For instance, the Pink Pineapple flavor contains 1 serving of fruit in the pouch and 40% of the daily value of Vitamin C at only 45 calories per serving.  Nutritional values and daily servings of fruit vary by flavor, so be sure to check out all of their flavors at FunkyMonkeySnacks.com.

Buy Funky Monkey Snacks at your favorite retailers

You  can purchase Funky Monkey Snacks at a variety of retail stores:   Amazon, Target, Safeway, Kroger, Weis, Albertsons and more.  The Funky  Monkey Snacks site has a list of retailers where you can buy their  product.  I love Amazon - you don’t even have to leave your house to  order!

Win a sampler pack of Funky Monkey Snacks!

Funky Monkey Snacks has generously offered to provide one winner with a sampler pack of their 7  flavors.  You must be a U.S. resident and 18 or older to enter.  The giveaway will run from 9/21/2010 to 10/5/2010 at 11:59 PM. No late entries will be counted.  I will use Random.org to choose a winner, who  will have 48 hours to respond or I will have to chose an alternate winner.  This giveaway is open to US residents only and you must be 18 or older to enter.

I learned that freeze-dried fruit is more nutritious than regular dried fruit, as it retains nearly all of the nutrients versus 45% nutrient retention in dried fruit. It also contains less water, which equals better flavor and better value.

Because they are freeze-dried they contain almost all nutrients, unlike ordinarily dried fruit which lose a lot of it's nutrient during it's processing.

I learned that Funky Monkey uses premium fruits that are freeze-dried using a proprietary production process, producing a much crunchier snack than other brands with no chalkiness. The product does not pulverize in its packaging, nor disintegrate in the mouth. Plus, Funky Monkey uses full slices and pieces of fruit as opposed to other types of fruit-based snacks that use small dices of fruit.
