Children's Cough Syrup Recall 2016 - concern for accidental overdose

Nothing is more precious than your kids, so parents, be aware that Perrigo has issued a recall of children's cough syrup due to a potential problem with incorrect dosing cups.  These products were sold at popular retailers such as HEB, CVS, Rite-Aid, Kroger, and Dollar General.  Care One products are sold at Giant, Giant PA, Stop & Shop, and Martins.  GoodSense products are available online at Amazon.com.  Sunmark brand is available at community pharmacies, including Health Mart, according to its website.

Below is the list of affected products.  Bear in mind, too, that often recalls expand to different stores and/or products, so even if you don't think you have an affected product, you should still double check that any dosing cup you might have for children's cough syrups is correct.

Using an incorrect dosing cup could be serious bad news for your little one.  Their press release states, "Use of these products according to labeled instructions with an affected dosing cup is unlikely to result in serious side effects, and no reports related to overdose have been received to date. Consumers should be aware that an overdose of Guaifenesin DM may cause hyper excitability, rapid eye movements, changes in muscle reflexes, ataxia, dystonia, hallucinations, stupor, and coma. Other effects have included nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, irregular heartbeat, seizures, respiratory depression, and death."
