Scratch and dent can save you a bundle when it comes to appliance shopping

As you might have read in an earlier blog post, I recently broke my dishwasher. Que sera sera and all that, but today I went shopping with a 10% Lowe's coupon in hand and did some comparison shopping with hubby. Between Sears and Lowes, the model we'd pretty much decided on were equal price. The Lowe's coupon would have made it about $50 cheaper, but here's where the scratch and dent comes in.... low and behold, Sears just happened to have a dishwasher returned that was exactly what we wanted. The only thing was that it had a few little scratches. Likely, the sales person told us, the original owner saw scratches and returned it. It hadn't even been run! The inside was pristine. He said that often people buy something and if the color doesn't match they return them and they can't sell them new because they are technically used.

So he offers us a deal we couldn't refuse - a 20% discount, which meant $100 bucks off the dishwasher! We wanted a quiet one and one that had enough power to be more than just a sanitizer. I think we got a great deal, but it was still hard parting with my money. So the next time you are looking for a deal on appliances, be sure to ask if they have any that were recently returned. If you don't care about a few nicks and dents, then you may be able to score a great deal on an appliance.
