I recently received an email from Amazon detailing one of their newest additions to their gluten free offerings - some Betty Crocker Gluten Free desserts. My mouth watered as I looked at the offerings - Devil's food cake, white cake, brownies, and chocolate chip cookies - but I realized I was hesitant to order a case without first tasting a single box. The thing with GF products is either you love them or you hate them and due to the fact that they are more expensive than comparable non-GF items, it is hard to commit to a case without a taste test first.
I nearly fainted (literally) in the cake aisle of a local Food Lion when I saw three of the new Betty Crocker Gluten Free desserts. I grabbed one of each and have since made 2 of the 3 desserts. (Here's the product review of Betty Crocker's Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies that I wrote for Associated Content.) So far, I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and the amount of GF food that themix makes. It's been my experience with GF products that you get half of what you'd normally at twice the price. These mixes retailed for about $4.19.
Now, I can confidently order these mixes from Amazon without worry of wasting money. I can also order them at 15% discount by subscribing. This is important because while these items may go on sale, GF items usually don't get marked down much if at all at the stores that I shop at.
Ordering on Amazon with the subscription discount makes the Betty Crocker Gluten Free dessert line cheaper than buying them at the grocery store.
