Summer Movies for Kids: Regal Cinema Summer Movies $1 (2012)

Summer movies for kids on the cheap!  Regal Cinemas has released its summer movie list for their Summer Movie Express program, where kids can watch movies for $1 a movie.  These movies are shown at the theater on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM.  Local to me, their 9-week schedule begins June 12, though I've read other bloggers that mentioned it beginning sooner in their area.  Here's a list of the movies that the Regal Cinema in Fredericksburg, VA will be showing.  Be sure to check your zip code for participating theaters to see what's showing in your area and on what dates.

Michael's sale: $1 Lily's Sugar and Cream cotton yarn this week!

Knitters and crocheters:  Michael's has Lily's Sugar and Cream cotton yarn on sale this week for $1 a ball.  This is nearly a savings of half off.  This yarn is great for dish cloths (I'm knitting some for a family member as a gift) and other kitchen uses (knit towels, placemats, etc.), but you can use it for other projects as well (sweaters, blankets, etc.)

This is billed as the lowest price of the season, and it sure is.  I snagged me 20 balls of yarn to hide in my stash for future use.  If you're a crafter or knit/crochet for Etsy, now's a great time to grab some cheap yarn to increase your profit margin.

Looking for a free event to get the kids out of the house and doing something fun?  Michaels craft store is offering some free and low-cost events for Valentine's Day.  For instance, on February 5 from 2 PM - 3PM, kids can make a valentine for free.  Check with your local store as I did not see Valentine's events listed on the online event calendar for my store or another one I checked.

The list price is $15.99, marked down to $4.98 right now.  I got this for my daughter back in November and paid $11.99 for it.  This would be a great item to pick up for a birthday for your daughter, niece, or for future birthday parties your child will attend this coming year.

I believe this is a Walmart exclusive, but I found Monopoly Electronic Banking on an endcap marked at $19 (was $24.97), and the packages had a $5 McDonald's Arch Card inside.  The boxes said "Walmart Exclusive" on them.

Kindle price drop to $79; How low can they go? Will this new Kindle be the hottest holiday gift this year?

  


As you might know, I keep an eye on prices for e-readers mainly because I own a nook and also because my 10 year old BEGS me all the time for one of her own.  Dropping below the $100 price point is great, but Kindle now has a $79 e-reader that may just be one of the hottest sellers this holiday season. 

In an open letter on Amazon.com, the new prices for Kindles are laid out, including the new $79 Kindle, which weighs less than 6 ounces and has a 6" display.  You'll still have the "special offers", which is targeted advertising, at this price point.  This Wi-Fi Kindle will also allow you to borrow books from your library (if they participate).

Target steal... if your store still has some!

I picked up some 70 page one-subject notebooks for just 5 cents each!  These were from Back-to-School and YMMV depending on how much stock your Target had of these.  I also grabbed some 10 cent black-and-white composition notebooks, but be very careful as the composition books (including other colors) for Back-to-School have different UPCs from their regular stock.  When in doubt, scan them first.  I bought these dirt cheap to donate to my children's school.

Mead notebooks were also clearanced down to 25 cents each - be looking for the ones with coupons inside.  I also grabbed some extra wire locker stackable shelves.  These are great for organizing my pantry so I grabbed more to finish my project.  They were marked down to $1.25.

Borders Store Closing Schedule (Check to see when your Borders will close forever!)

Borders is wrapping up their clearance sales and many stores will close in the next few days.  Borders has posted a store closure schedule on Facebook, so be sure to check and see when you're store will be locked up for good.  They've also posted that discounts will be 70-80-90%  in these final days.  If you pick up something, please share what it was and what it cost in the comments.  I am hoping to return to the Borders in Fredericksburg later this week for one last hurrah.  Note:  Borders at major airports are already shuttered.

Red Plum Deal of the Day - be sure to check daily to see what they're offering!

Red Plum is celebrating National Coupon Month (yes, apparently we get a whole month to celebrate coupon usage!) by having a special Dash for Deals promo.  What's the Dash for Deals?  According to the Red Plum press release, "one deal a day will be hosted at www.redplum.com/dash featuring printable coupons, coupon codes or samples."

Earlier this month, I saw Amazon Student membership - free two day shipping for six whole months.  This site may be worth keeping an eye on during September.

Staples deal on Bic pens/pencils

I was shopping at Staples yesterday for some last minute back-to-school bargains and picked up some Bic retractable pens that were .50 each (6 per pack).  The ad stated limit 2, so I grabbed two.  However, the cashier told me that they qualified for the Bic buy 2, get 1 free promo in the ad too, so I could grab another pack and get it free!  This worked great and I verified the freebie on my receipt.  That meant 18 pens for $1.  It also worked on the .50 mechanical pencils.

Also, I received a Staples email that listed more deals than were listed in the physical ad.  These were treated like unadvertised specials.  For instance, my email said I could get two Staples school glues for 5 cents each.  This was nowhere in the regular ad, yet I did find shelf tags advertising this.  Unfortunately, the email ad also had 3 really nice free after Easy Rebate items, which I was told I couldn't purchase since, "if it isn't in our ad, it won't print you the rebate at the register."  If I have time, I may go back and try to pick up those items and see if the rebate receipt does print after all.  I showed them my Smartphone so they could see the ad, but they said they would not price match unless I had printed it out.

Target Clearance find -- 52 cent markers!

A friend told me her Target was at 30% clearance on some back-to-school items, mostly notebooks.  Today I spied these two items that were clearanced out.

I grabbed six of the markers and four of the construction papers.  I plan to get them to our school's art teacher.  My daughter told me today that their art teacher ran out of construction paper for projects last year.  How sad!  I hope other parents take the time to find out what their children's art teacher's needs might be when they're buying items for back-to-school.
