I love twitter. I had some difficulty "getting it" at first, but I've come to realize that America lives their life online. Virtually everybody that I know is on Facebook and half of everybody I know is on twitter. In this age of social media, companies almost have to have an active presence across an array of social media sites. Consumers such as myself look for everything online. I recently read an article that discussed the "death" of the white pages. This, I saw coming. I don't haul out that 5 pound, space hogging nuisance to find phone numbers anymore. I let my fingers to the walking... across my keyboard.
Brands who aren't active on social media are really doing themselves a disservice. Having an online presence on Facebook and Twitter is like having their own Advertising Agency promoting them. Bloggers such as myself write reviews and post to Twitter or Facebook. My Twitter following is just under 1,400 followers. Having me tweet out a product review is extra free advertising when you think about it in that light. It's so easy to share blog posts too, hence the viral nature that Twitter and Facebook allow.
I notice when my favorite companies don't have social media accounts, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I also notice when they "park" their name on Twitter and they never tweet or their last tweet was a year ago. I don't go to your page for old posts or tweets. I am looking for current information and promotions.
What are your thoughts on this? Which of your favorite companies is lacking in the social media department?
