Felicity Merriman, a 10 year old American Girl hailing from Williamsburg, Virginia, has many adventures, including falling in love with Penny, a copper colored horse.  The problem is that Penny's owner maltreats the horse and won't allow her father to buy her.  Felicity sneaks out - something a proper gentle lady does not do - and breaks the headstrong horse.  Along the way, Felicity meets a new friend, Elizabeth, whose father is a Loyalist, whereas Felicity's father is a Patriot.  Will their families' differing political views drive them apart?  Watch and find out what happens to Felicity, Penny the horse, and Elizabeth in Colonial Williamsburg.

What my family thought of Felicity...

We watched Felicity:  An American Girl Adventure on DVD tonight as a family.  We live in Virginia and Williamsburg is a few hours away by car.  It is definitely a place that we could visit on a day trip.  I liked the colonial period costumes.  I have been to Williamsburg, though quite a long time ago.  Watching Felicity made me want to re-visit Williamsburg even more.  The plot was nice and there were definitely some lessons in there that made it a family friendly and educational movie. 

After the movie ended, I asked my 9 (nearly 10 year old - same age as Felicity) what she liked best.  She said she loved the end when the snooty girl got the trick pulled on her.  She liked the scenery and loved Felicity's ball dress.  This was interesting to me since my daughter eschews dresses and always has.  Getting her to wear a dress is a chore and though she loves the look, she doesn't like to wear dresses.  

I then asked her what the message of the movie was.  She said it was to "teach people that friends are people you can rely on."  In the movie, there were several instances where friendship and kindness toward others was touched upon.  So American Girl, mission accomplished!  I didn't even have to prod her to get that answer.
